Discovering God’s Purposes
for Your Life through Active
Relational Engagement
by Harvey L. Diamond
God created you for a unique purpose. In fact, the very first chapter of Genesis in the Bible says you were made in His image—His likeness. His primary purpose, therefore, is for you to know Him and relate with Him so He will be glorified. Truly, you were made to relate with your Creator; relational God—God Almighty, El Shaddai!
Most people don’t think about God as being relational because they have heard about God from a religious standpoint; not relational standpoint. Unfortunately, man seeks to rationalize God through intellectual reasoning. Yet, God seeks to relate with us from the heart.
That’s why He seeks hearts of trusting faith; or childlike faith. It was from this perspective that Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." (Mark 10:15) Scholars may seek to define religious doctrines and dogma. God, however, is relational, and created you to have a relationship with Him. And you can.
Messiah Jesus came to reveal that “God is spirit.” (John 4:24) That’s why He added, “those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." It is also why on the very day His disciples were celebrating the Biblical feast of Shavuot—thereafter known as Pentecost—that God released into the hearts of His disciples His Spirit—the Holy Spirit.
It is His Spirit that expresses His love and gives life to mankind. His Spirit also has the capacity to connect and relate with Him on a personal basis. Old Testament characters experienced His Spirit from time to time. All who believe in Messiah Jesus, though, have permanent access to His wonderful Spirit residing in the heart.
Truly, God is Spirit, and seeks to relate with His children. That’s why relating with God takes faith—or in reality trust—which is the real essence of Biblical faith.
How to relate with God? How to hear His voice speaking to your heart? One way God did prescribe as a way to relate and interact with Him was through the Appointed Times of the Lord. They, in effect, serve as a blueprint of the way God planned to relate and engage with His people on a continuous basis.
In fact, we’ve created an easy way to learn to relate with God through our PATHWAYS TO GLORY Relational Devotional. Check it out.
